Wibble Wobble's Soul Meter system only has a brief, barebones explanation at the beginning of the game, leaving players to figure most of it out for themselves. In this guide, the process of charging a Yo-kai's Soultimate Move is deconstructed and completely explained.
In Wibble Wobble, every Yo-kai has a Soul Meter. Once it is completely charged, that Yo-kai can use its Soultimate Move. Unless otherwise noted in their Soultimate description, a Yo-kai's Soul Meter has a maximum capacity of 13 Soul Points. Yo-kai who start out with a larger than normal Soul Meter get theirs lowered as their Soultimate levels up, resulting in their Soul Meter being smaller than the regular 13 Soul Points. The smallest Soul Meter is currently 9 Soul Points, but this record will be broken with the release of Bushiou, whose Soul Meter can be charged with only 8.
Gaining a Soul Point is not as simple as popping a Yo-kai's Wib Wob. Different sizes of Wib Wob give different amounts of Soul Points. The smallest size, Size 1, only gives 1/13 Soul Point. Size 2 gives 12/13, Size 3 gives 1 12/13, Size 4 gives 3 1/13, Size 5 gives 4 1/13, and Size 6 Wib Wobs give 5 1/13 Soul Points. Any Big Wib Wob of Size 7 or greater has a 1:1 Size:Soul Point ratio. For example, popping a Size 13 Wib Wob will give 13 Soul Points, which is enough to charge a normal Yo-kai's Soul meter in a single pop.
With so many Big Wib Wob Sizes to choose from, it can be daunting trying to make split second decisions during gameplay. Creating the wrong Big Wib Wob Size can cost a Soultimate, so choosing the right Size to create is important. One part is clear: Unless popped immediately after a Size 2 or Size 3 Wib Wob, popping lone Size 1 Wib Wobs is never worth it; instead, they should be linked. The most efficient way of charging a regular Yo-kai's Soultimate is by popping a Size 13 Wib Wob. When available, this is the best choice outside of Fever Time. Linking a Size 13 Wib Wob gives a lot of charge to the Fever Gauge and results in dealing the most damage.
Charging Soul Meter during Fever Time is different. The bigger the Wib Wob, the longer it takes for it to become tangible, or linkable and poppable, after beginning the link. Due to Fever Time's 10 second time constraint, wasting time waiting for a Size 13 to become tangible usually is not an option. Instead, the best way to charge a Yo-kai's Soul Meter during Fever Time is to create two Size 7 Wib Wobs. This requires only one more Wib Wob to do, and these Wib Wobs will be able to be popped almost instantly. Under the harsh time constraints of Fever Time, this is usually the best choice.
The next Wibble Wobble mechanics guide will be about Fever Time. Check back later this week for information on some intricacies of Fever Time not explained in-game.
